My two favorite people in the whole world to photograph!
Ever since I can remember I have had a camera in my hand. The earliest age I can remember taking pictures is when my sister was about 3-4 months old. She was my pride and joy and I loved capturing her on film! From there I remember that two of my cousins, Alma and Marcy, always carried their cameras around their neck with the hopes of taking a cool little shot. It was fun to watch them take pictures, especially in the 80's when Polaroids where hot. I loved them so, they both passed away at a very young age.
In Junior High and High School I took pictures. More in High School. I talked my way into the advanced photo class and loved it. I learned so much about photography. In college I emphasized my degree in Photography and still it was only a hobby. I loved the smell of the dark room and the sound of film loading. I loved that I did not know what the shot would look like until I went through the process of developing the film and then printing the picture. Taking hours to burn and dodge the photo just right. Back in those days my side kick was my Minolta (which a friend still has and I need to see how it is doing). Someday I hope to teach RRR and CMR on that very camera, maybe that would be a good summer project.
In college I took that Minolta to Italy where I got to work in the most amazing dark room. I developed photos for high fashion. My assignment was to capture my trip on film. I still have those photos and only a few people have actually seen these awesome little pieces of art. I also made a nice cool dark room for kindergartners and taught them how to take pictures and develop. I should build a dark room in my garage!!!!!
Then at the age of 27 I married JM and he had a canon Rebel, film (which we still have tucked away). Last year he upgraded my camera to my Canon 40D which I still have yet to learn how to use all the fancy stuff on it. If I where to say what type of photographer I am I would say I am a classic. I tend to lean on the less dramatic effects type and more toward capturing life as it happens. To me that is with no filters or drama built in...just letting it play its self out.
So today if you where to ask me if I am a photographer I think I could honestly say that I am. 30+ years later. And if you where to ask me what it is I LOVE LOVE LOVE to photograph I would say...PEOPLE. Thanks Moni for "posing" for me. :)
So if you see me with my camera don't be afraid to just grab it from me and snap a picture!
