My friend Jenny and her family have been missionaries for over 8 years in El Salvador with ENLACE. When she found out that she had cancer they where able to come to the states for treatment. Jenny has a huge battle to fight and with God on her side she is kicking some serious butt! It has been so amazing to see and read about her community and friends that have surrounded her and her family. It truly is the picture of Christ's love. What moves my heart so is Jenny. Her heart to trust God in all that is happening. I can remember one afternoon in El Salvador where I got to go and paint with her. On the drive there we talked about dreams. About how we could help El Salvador, how we could sell her art work and much more. When we got to the museum where the exhibition would take place there was a huge white canvas like sheet where Jenny would begin to draw out the painting that the community would them come and finish. In the middle of the set up it began to pour rain. Not any kind of rain it was raining gumballs. They fell like fire and we sat behind the canvas sheet to admire it. There sitting next to each other we talked about being moms. A hard job at that. We talked about how we wanted our girls in particular to know love and feel pretty without having to be "models" and our girls truly are. I remember talking about our struggles growing up and how God has changed our lives forever.
Although Jenny and I have only truly spent a few moments together in El Salvador I have come to love her as a dear friend. Today she is battling breast cancer. On the one hand it makes me so mad that she has to go through this hard and horrible fight and I pray that God's peace will continue to be with her. On the other hand - WOW - what an amazing fighter she has become. She smiles while taking chemo, she paints to express her emotions and transformation and she loves God through it all. Her faith blows me away. She is constantly trusting God with every moment of her life. When I read her blog about her Wiggin out Wednesdays I stopped in my tracks. I began to think of how I would handle my whole body/looks changing so dramatically. She is choosing to have fun and make people laugh. Every week she is going to play with her look by wearing a new wig. Even in craziness she finds art (her gift) to tell her story of life.
Thank you Jenny for your faith in Christ, it leads me to the cross where I can trust in Him. Thank you for sharing your life with people so that they will believe. Thank you for your smiles and your crazy wigs. Thank you for your service to the people of El Salvador and for begin an amazing servant to them. Thank you for being an awesome wife and mother -- someone I can look up to in this hard walk. Thank you for being you!!!!!!!!
If you would like to help Jenny fight cancer you can by purchasing some of her amazing t shirts or art pieces at this link. Jenny's cool stuff.
