A look back on 2008

Our family has had another wonderful year full of adventure and promise. God has been so incredibly generous to us and faithful to us. His love has surrounded us through the entire year and for that we are thankful. Rebekah and Caleb have grown into wonderful seekers of the Lord. The one thing that stands out to me the most this year is their love of going to church and praying. They fight over who will pray at any meal time. They talk to us about helping people and sharing and praying for them. What a blessing coming from our 4 year old and our 2 year. Don’t get me wrong they are truly angles from God but have their crazy insane moments as well. As they are brother and sister with their own personalities and wants. But through it all they love being with one another and playing, signing, coloring, painting and watching movies.

This summer was a wonderful summer spent together. Ashley, our dear friend, took care of them both and taught them so much. They took swim lesson, learned to play in the back yard with the hose, had water balloon fights, sidewalk painted, rode their bikes at Vanguard, went to the park, had ice cream, went to the zoo, Disneyland, to the movies, and went to VBS at our church. The summer was full of adventure for them and they grew to love each other and Ashley become part of the family. We are so thankful to Ashley for the time she spent with the kids.

Rebekah is still excelling at school and is learning her A,B,Cs and is learning to write her name. She still enjoys the wonders of signing and does a fantastic job of it. She had been growing her hair for the last two years and in October of this year she cut it off and donated to locks-of-love. We where so proud of her and she was so excited. Her words,”I look like a different person!” Indeed she did, like a little grown up girl.

Caleb is our little handy man. He has enjoyed working on the “jacked-up Jetta” (as he would say) with Daddy. He has been working with John Mark on refinishing a bunk bed that was given to us for his room. He absolutely loves trucks, dump truck, big trucks, red trucks, fire trucks, trash trucks, tow-trucks, tiny trucks….the list goes on!

John Mark has been a busy man this year. He began his PhD program last spring and has been working hard all year. It has been a joy to see him excel in God’s calling for his life. Along with the new program he accepted a new position at work, Vanguard University, as Information Technology Project Manager. I am so proud of all that he is doing to support our family and God’s calling on our lives. It was a joy to walk with him as he teaches students and walks with God every day trusting that He will provide.

I have been working on Robeck Design and growing the business and began a new venture called De Paz Products with our friend Peter De Soto. I am extremely excited about how God is using me in so many ways. I continue to work with ENALCE as a board member and I am so thankful for my time with the family.

The Family continues to work with Vanguard University by leading teams of students to El Salvador. We had an incredible team this past June where God used all of us in amazing ways. Rebekah learned to pop-a-squat from a local girl! Caleb enjoyed working in the dirt and got fire ants on him twice. We are encouraged by all of your prayers and generosity in supporting our family this year as we venture to El Salvador to serve the people there. We will be returning to El Salvador June 2009 with another great team from Vanguard.
